1913 – ELEVATOR INSPECTIONS BECOME THE NORM

Electric elevators have been tested by inspection associations since 1907 (Baden) and 1908(Bavaria). However, it was initially left up to the operators to determine howoften, if at all, inspections were performed.

This changed inBaden with an ordinance issued by the state government in the summer of 1912,which requireed inspections every two years for passenger elevators, and everyfour years for freight elevators.

All engineers ofthe Badische Revisionsverein were appointed as materials-handling experts byministerial decree. Elevator inspections were conducted for the first timethroughout the region in 1913 – and a new business area was created.
